A Boy Named Rose

Elessar Younglove (They/She/Fae)

I am determined to deny femininity
In exchange for flamboyance
I think I understand what I wanted to be
I am allowed to exist without apology
Do not wrap my ribs in lace
Deny the marker stamped on my birth
Do not deny me
Distance yourself from my prophecy

I am finally me
I am a prince, a knight
I am beautiful, eternal, masculine
Everything they said I could not be
I am a boy named Rose

I would be called gentle
No one would protest haircuts
With the short hair I could own
My name would be unique
Not a fulfillment of femininity

Just a boy named Rose
