Giovanni Smith (they/them)

Here’s one of my emotionally turbulent poems about one of my past emotionally turbulent relationships with a guy.

i am all ocean storms and lightning bolts
with each monstrous wave of dark water

i will surely sink this wretched ship

you are all earthquakes and thunder
with a voice cracking bedrock

i never felt alone with you

because i love that we are all loud, shattering
noise that wind-cuts the sky open while

the sun refuses to come out for us

our storm and rain drown us too soon
for us to understand what it means to die

before being resurrected again

let us kiss and become
our biggest nightmare and everything

we have ever wanted.
