mountains

Katie Watson (she/her)

the climb burns and i’m stepping
faster the roads and trees sink
lower and it's like watching the people
pass me by on the street they
live distant and graceful while i
wish that i could live in just
one of their minds and feel like i could
                                      love someone.

the peak is cold and not the end
the trail is its own but now familiar
the people passing are mine now
but they will never just be mine
as i will never be theirs.
